You know you’re getting older when you start using the phrase “back in my day.” But the truth is that Dunk Contests will never be as good as they were back in my day. And the one contest that always comes to mind was in the year 2000. The birth of Vinsanity. Vince Carter just killed it with insane dunk after insane dunk, and had kids everywhere hanging off rims by their elbows. I know I was. It had to be the shoes! But what were they?! They weren’t Nikes or Jordans or Adidas…it was the And1 Tai Chi. The hype around And1 was slowly building from the success of the And1 Mixtapes, and Vince Carter wearing the Tai Chi when winning the 2000 Dunk Contest officially put them on the radar. Even 15 years after its original debut, the Tai Chi still remains And1’s most recognized model and one of my personal favorites.
