My favorite all star sneaker memories come from the only weekend we hosted in my hometown of San Antonio in 1996. I was a 12 going on 13 year old kid who’s life revolved around NBA basketball. During the Saturday proceeding that nights festivities, my grandfather won a few tickets to attend the media only All Star practice held during jam session. There I was able to preview some of the all star sneakers the players wore the next day for the game. It was quite an impressive lineup that we all know now from those epic pictures from the game: Air Max Pennys, Reebok Kamikaze IIs, Fila Hill IIs, and even the lesser remembered Air Max Uptempos and Flight 95s. Upon completion of the practice some of the players stuck around to sign fan autos, namely Charles Barkley and Terrell Brandon. I’m glad I was a part of what was probably the best sneaker lineup in All Star history and the ’96 game will always be tops for me.
