My Top 10 Pickups of 2015 – NYJumpman23

Drum roll please…

The Air Jordan 1 Retro ‘Shattered Backboard’ and the Air Jordan 1 Retro ‘Banned’. I’ll tell you this is literally the luck of the draw. With SBB, it was the luck of a raffle (and early morning trek to the city), but also the originating story behind the definition of the shoe. And as for the Banned, I was very fortunate to build a friendship with the means of social media and we both had nostalgia for particular pairs of shoes. With the rarity of being able to trust people by means of swapping shoes, we both lived by the honor system, and at the end of the day it all worked out. He now has a pair of Air Jordan 6 Infrared, which he grew up loving but was unable to obtain a pair, while I now own the Air Jordan 1 ‘Banned’ model, which I’ve been searching for since they released. We were both able to not only have a friendship, but able to bind a story behind the shoes we truly love and talk about the the memories behind the shoe (’91 Bulls, when Jordan won his first championship to MJ being fined for wearing colors of a shoe that was not apart of the uniform attire).

At the end of the day, they are still just shoes, but to those who do have a story, share away, and continue to be apart of “sneaker history.” Cheers all and happy holidays. I look forward to more with you all in 2016 and further years to come.

1 - SBB - Banned
