Wait, What Are Those?

I was having a cup of coffee at Deadstock Coffee (check them out here) in Portland, OR this weekend and found something quite unique. The shop’s walls are littered with various shoes from different brands and eras. As I drank, an odd pair of Hyperdunks caught my eye and I thought… WHAT ARE THOSE!!?!

The upper is a 2011 Hyperdunk, nothing too special there; but the cushioning/outsole was taken from a 2013 Lunarglide 4! Why would have Nike made these? Well, first three Hyperdunks used Zoom Air for cushioning, but in 2012 the line shifted to Lunarlon cushioning system. Maybe the designers were testing new the 2013 Lunarglide’s durability by applying it to a basketball shoe and the 2011 Hyperdunk just fit the sole shape well. Maybe they were testing ideas for the 2014 Hyperdunk because that shoe’s end product Lunarlon looks most like the 2013 Lunarglide’s. Either way, these are some crazy unicorns to any basketball collector. Checkout some pics below and tell us why you think the shoe was created.
