What are we doing here, adidas?

Came across these at an adidas store and can’t really wrap my head around why they exist.

Is the appeal of this shoe that it just looks futuristic? If so, why leave the upper looking so dated?

If the point is more about technology, why don’t we see this being used in other models or even a wildly modern upper to go with the “technologically advanced” midsole/cushioning?

I personally love the idea of 3D printing in footwear designs. I am a huge fan of the adidas 4D line, but having such a modern/futuristic midsole design combined with a more traditional running shoe upper doesn’t make any sense to me.

Someone please make this make sense.
