I’m making it a goal to give away 100 pairs of shoes in 2024. We’re starting early with a pair of the iconic Nike Air Trainer SC “Auburn” colorway that Bo Jackson made famous.
As most of you know, Bo was a legendary two-sport athlete and had a huge influence on the training footwear category as it evolved from aerobics to multi-sport cross training, but as I went down a rabbit hole learning more about him I discovered a handful of crazy facts.
- He’s the only athlete to ever be named an All-Star in two professional sports, MLB All-Star and NFL Pro Bowl.
- Louisville Slugger made him a signature baseball bat model that other players in the league used during his time playing. (Makes me think of that photo of Michael Jordan looking down at Nick Anderson wearing the Air Jordan 11!)
- He ran 4.13 second 40-yard dash at the NFL combine in 1986. That’s still faster than any modern player has run in the last decade. (Link to the video)
- He was the first athlete to ever play any professional sport with an artificial hip. It’s really a bummer that his hip injury ultimately brought both of his professional sports careers to an early end.
Most importantly for sneakerheads, he was a part of some unforgettable Nike commercials and basically carried the whole training category to success in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Anyway, giveaway winners will be announced on our community calls and in the Discord giveaways channel. I’ll add full details in the Discord as well.
Good luck, everyone!
