On this date (May 11) in 2001, Vince Carter had quite the game. It was game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals and his Toronto Raptors were playing the Allen Iverson-led Philadelphia 76ers. It was his time to shine in front of the hometown crowd as the Raptors were able to take 1 of 2 in Philly. No surprise that on his feet during that game were a pair of the Nike Shox BB4.
Carter was hot, making shots from all over the floor. Jumpers, runners, dunks–they were all going in. Especially the three ball. In fact, he set an N.B.A. playoff record for consecutive 3-pointers and 3-pointers in a half, with 8. He would finish the game with 9 total, also a record. For the game, he went 19-29 to finish with 50 points. Short of Iverson’s 54 during Game 2, but still amazing.
Sadly, the Raptors would fall to the 76ers in seven games. But no one, especially in Toronto, will forget that memorable performance. And don’t forget that currently, Vinsanity is a part of the Memphis Grizzles who are hoping to keep pushing through this year’s playoffs. Maybe he’ll go for another 50 soon, maybe not.
