Question Mid "Black"

2007

Sneaker history

Undefeated and Reebok worked together on the Question more than once, and this black pair is the quieter, more wearable half of that relationship. The Los Angeles boutique first dressed Allen Iverson’s signature in a wildly colorful 2006 makeup, then followed it with additional colorways including this blacked-out version, built for the people who wanted the collaboration without the volume. The details reward a close look, speckled tooling on the midsole, gold-tipped detailing on the lace eyelets, and text running along the panel, all sitting on Reebok’s Hexalite-cushioned sole.

Undefeated was one of the most important boutiques of the 2000s, a shop whose collaborations helped define what a retailer partnership could be, and its Question work paid proper respect to one of the most significant guard shoes ever made. The Question announced Iverson, the player who brought a streetball attitude to the NBA and changed how the league marketed its stars, and Undefeated treated the silhouette as the cultural object it is. This black colorway has aged into one of the more sought-after Undefeated Questions, the kind of restrained collaboration that looks better with time precisely because it never chased attention. For an archive the Undefeated Question documents the mid-2000s boutique era, when shops like Undefeated sat close enough to the brands to reinterpret a classic, and a black Question with speckles and gold could quietly become a grail.
