2019 looks to be the year that Jordan Brand and the female sneakerheads are seeing eye to eye. With the recent unveiling of the Jordan Summer 2019 Women’s Retro Collection, it is evident that the brand is finally starting to listen to the ladies of the sneaker community.

For the first time, in what seems like ever, this collection isn’t filled with all pink and glittery take-down models of classics. This season’s collection will debut some colorways that will break the necks of both males and females alike. One of these silhouettes, in particular, the Air Jordan 1 “Twist” or better known as the “Pandas”, was marked on many calendars. Draped in a classic black and white color scheme, these took it to the next level with faux pony hair covering the black accents. These flew off of shelves and websites immediately. Just as expected, men were scrambling to get their hands on these as well, myself included. This wouldn’t be the first time in sneaker history that men found themselves chasing after a clean women’s exclusive. But, the impressive part about this release was that they released and sold out 24 hours before the coveted Travis Scott x Jordan 1 collaboration. That says a lot about this sneaker if you ask me.

Another women’s sneaker that set the community on fire was the Aleali May x Jordan 6 that released in March. Dressed in a familiar “Rust Pink” tone, this sneaker was sure to be an instant classic. I know I mentioned previously about the ladies not having to suffer through pink shoes, but these were different. This particular shade of pink received critical acclaim on the very much coveted Art Basel x Jordan 1 “Rust Pink”. So these sneakers garnered respect throughout the community. And just as expected, these sold out in seconds. To get your hands on these now, you would be looking to spend well above retail.

With the ladies finally getting their due with some very solid exclusives, there was something else that needed to be corrected. This would be the version of the OG sneakers that released in women’s sizes. With the release of the Black Cement Jordan 4s, this was the moment when Jordan could redeem their poor execution of the 2012 version. They didn’t disappoint. Jordan Brand made sure that the men’s sizes and the women’s sizes matched each other in construction and quality.

I am glad to see the female sneaker community finally getting some shine with these recent releases in versions of their very own. This type of elevation can only help strengthen the sneaker community as a whole. Make sure to keep an eye out, because this looks to only be the beginning. Announcements of a new mismatched teal/white and pink/white Jordan 1 will have the masses clamoring for this Art Basel-esque look. And with rumors of the Jordan 8 “White-Aqua” colorway releasing, we are sure to see the hype build.

Do you feel that Jordan Brand is taking a more thoughtful approach in regards to the female sneakerhead?
