January 30th, 1987. Bulls at Sixers. I got 2 tickets for Christmas. It was my first NBA game. My Dad and I left immediately after school to get down to Philly. I had a ream of blank paper and enough black sharpies because if I had the chance to meet Jordan, I wanted to be prepared. Spectrum security was a little weak at the time which was to say me and about 3 other people were able to follow the bus underneath the Spectrum to where they team parked. I had on my Air Jordan IIs and my black satin “winged basketball” Air Jordan jacket. I was 13 so my heart was beating out of my chest in anticipation of meeting MJ. Out came Dave Corzine, followed by Brad Sellers. And there he was. My heart was racing faster than it ever had. I was the last out of the 4 of us down there. As I asked, “Michael, can you sign this?”, he put his hand on my right shoulder, looked at me and said, “Can’t right now, but enjoy the game.” It was the coolest rejection I’ve ever gotten. We had nosebleed seats. Jordan dropped 49. It was a great day. Of all the great games and performances I’ve seen of his, in person or on TV, this is MY Jordan moment.
