The Aleali May x Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG ‘Satin Shadow’ is one of the more texturally distinctive Jordan 1 collabs of the 2010s, built on the classic Black/Shadow Grey/White blocking but stripped of any conventional leather. The upper is constructed in black corduroy, a material May chose as a direct reference to the house slippers worn by her father and uncle growing up in Los Angeles. Silver satin covers the heel counter and toe overlays where standard grey leather would typically sit, giving the shoe a restrained sheen that reads as elevated rather than flashy. The Swooshes are rendered in shadow grey chenille, a nod to the embroidered script and logo work found on vintage Starter and varsity jackets from the same era May was drawing on for the whole design. Metallic eyelets and black laces keep the palette tight. The tongue tag carries an orange accent with embroidered branding, and the Wings logo at the ankle is stitched in tonal black rather than printed.
