Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG "Shattered Backboard 2.0"

2016

Sneaker history

The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Shattered Backboard is one of the more culturally loaded retros Jordan Brand has produced in the modern era. The colorway references the 1985 Nike exhibition game in Trieste, Italy, where Michael Jordan dunked so forcefully he shattered the backboard, a moment that became part of his early European legend. The shoe pairs a sail leather toe box and quarter panel with vivid orange overlays on the heel, toe cap edge, collar, and eyestay, a black Swoosh cutting across the midfoot, and a black collar lining. The orange outsole and white midsole complete the look. The Wings logo on the ankle reads in black on orange, consistent with the Away designation the sneaker community uses to distinguish it from the Home version, which inverts the sail and orange placement. Jordan Brand retroed the silhouette in its original high-top form with premium tumbled leather construction, landing in 2016 to strong consumer reception. The pairing of sail and orange sits close enough to the original 1985 color blocking that the shoe reads as a faithful document of that Italian game, grounded in specific history rather than generic retro revision.
