An All-Star weekend sneaker moment that stands out from me is watching Blake Griffin win the Dunk Contest in 2011. The reason why is I was there to see it in person. The memory is more about the slow drive to get to the event as me and my friend were driving through the rain in L.A. traffic trying to find decently priced parking by Staples Center (impossible btw). After finally getting in for All-Star Saturday events we realized it was a lot more boring in person then expected. If you have ever been to a event that is being nationally televised you know how long commercial breaks can be. And these breaks and set up between dunks were looooong. But Blake really brought an energy to the building that night. And for the final dunk the choir, hype man Kenny Smith, Baron Davis popping up sunroof of the Kia to assist made the average dunk pretty spectacular. I still find it funny that they released the “10.0” Hyperdunk 2011 when he wore the Air Max Fly By during the competition.
