Kobe’s sneaker line and NIKEiD have had plenty of success over the years. So popular are Kobe’s sneakers that players head to NIKEiD to create their own customized pairs rather than stick to whatever Nike creates for them.

For many Kobe fans his fifth Nike model is an all-time favorite. Not only was the model the second year of the more stream-lined, lower cut silhouette from Eric Avar, but it was also the model the Black Mamba wore for his final Championship during that 2009-2010 season. It was also a popular choice on NIKEiD thanks to different options available throughout the season and even a popular contest.

Fans were asked to submit designs with the winning design chosen by Kobe himself. Not only would the winner get that glory, and a pair of the sneakers, but the winning design would also be worn in a game. The contest-winning design came from the mind of Jason Hamilton aka Kid Hollywood, a lifelong Lakers fan.

His design was clean and simple. Going with a Metallic Silver and white upper, the accenting colors came in the form of Lakers purple and gold. Completing the look was an icy translucent outsole. The game the special sneakers were to be worn was on April 11, 2010 against the Portland Trailblazers. Not only did Kobe wear the sneakers, but many of his teammates did as well.

Much like his idol Michael Jordan, Nike often laced up the entire team with Kobe’s sneakers. On that night not only did #24 rock the special colorway but Lamar Odom, Derek Fisher, Shanon Brown, Luke Walton and more rocked them as well. When the final buzzer sounded the final score was not for the hometown Lakers. But there was no doubt some in the Los Angeles crowd went home that night and logged onto NIKEiD to get their own pair of the “Kid Hollywood” Zoom Kobe 5’s.
