The Nike SB Dunk Low Pro ‘Futura’ came out of the early SB program’s run of artist collaborations, pairing Nike’s skate division with graffiti and street art legend Futura, born Leonard Hilton McGurr. Released in 2003, the shoe sits among the most storied drops from that first wave of SB Dunk collaborations, a period that defined the collector market for the silhouette for years to come.
The construction layers dark navy tumbled leather on the toecap and ankle collar over black mesh on the quarter panel, with medium grey suede handling the mudguard, eyestay, and heel overlays. A white leather Swoosh cuts through the darker base materials and provides the sharpest contrast point on the profile. The midsole is grey, the outsole black, and the SB-spec insole and zoom air unit sit underneath a padded tongue built for skate use.
Futura’s influence on the design is restrained by the standards of later collabs, leaning on material and colorway choices rather than heavy graphic application. The palette draws on his signature cool-toned, almost industrial aesthetic, with the navy-to-grey shift reading as deliberate and considered rather than accidental. The shoe released through the tight SB retailer network that characterized the era, meaning original pairs reached relatively few hands at retail and quickly became targets for secondary market demand. The ‘Futura’ Dunk Low remains a benchmark reference point when documenting the SB program’s formative years.
