The Concepts x Nike SB Dunk High ‘When Pigs Fly’ is one of the more recognizable boutique collaborations to come out of the Nike SB program. Concepts, the Cambridge, Massachusetts retailer with a long history in the skate and sneaker space, built this release around a simple but striking concept: a pig-pink premium suede upper referencing the old idiom about impossible things. The upper is constructed entirely in a soft, fuzzy pink suede, covering the toe box, quarter panel, ankle collar, and tongue. A metallic silver leather Swoosh anchors the midfoot, echoed by a silver leather strip running along the top of the collar. Grey laces and grey liner accents provide subtle contrast rather than competing with the dominant pink. The midsole is clean white, sitting atop a gum rubber outsole that gives the shoe a classic SB aesthetic without drawing attention away from the upper. The combination of premium materials and a tight, focused color story made this one of the more sought-after SB drops of the 2012 season. It released through Concepts and select Nike SB accounts, maintaining the kind of controlled distribution that kept demand high. The shoe came packaged with pig-themed accessories that reinforced the concept without veering into gimmick territory.
