Nike x Apple.

Did you know that even before the first iPhone came out Nike and Apple had already joined forces? Nowadays you can use the Nike Running app on most smartphones to calculate your runs. Things like GPS maps, timing, playlists, goals–these were all developed over time. However, in the beginning, you had to have the Nike+iPod Sport Kit to do these things. You also needed an add-on piece to attach to an iPod Nano and receiving unit that fit into the insole of your Nike+ sneaker. Up until the partnership was announced there was no Nike+ sneaker; that is how the Air Zoom Moire was made.

Nike Air Zoom Moire TZ “Grey”

The first sneaker model from the partnership of the two powerhouse brands wasn’t just a throwaway model either. It was a legitimately good running model with a cult-like following. Something that helped it was the decision to use the popular cushioning system of Zoom Air on the model. The uppers were made from two layers of breathable synthetics. Ventilation holes were used throughout the body of the sneakers, making it easier on the feet and aiding in the aesthetics. The look was so popular that the “Moire” name has been used on other models like the Air Max 1 and 90.

Nike Air Zoom Moire TZ “Black”

The “Tier Zero” release was one that was not only hard to track down due to limited availability but was also a surprise look. Released in conjunction with the brand’s newfound partnership, two “Tier Zero” versions of the Air Zoom Moire were made. Both colorways had grey midsoles that were heavily speckled with black dots. The same shade of grey was used on the liner. For the upper, one could chose from either black or Medium Grey bodies. Adding a touch more class to the sneaker was leather striping on the heel. Released to only Nike Tier Zero shops, finding them then was tough. Today, it’s even tougher. It seems like most of the black pairs rarely hit the market whereas you can sporadically find the grey pair on eBay.
