The Zoom Revis was Nike’s signature trainer built around Darrelle Revis, the cornerback widely regarded during his peak years as the most dominant coverage defender in the NFL. Released in 2013, the shoe was designed as an athletic training model tied to his profile as a player who could effectively neutralize an entire side of the field.
The Sole Collector colorways came out of a partnership between Nike and the publication, resulting in two distinct versions of the silhouette carrying the SC branding. Collaborations between footwear media and Nike around this period were relatively common but still carried weight as a mark of cultural recognition, and pairing that with a player-specific model gave the release a more focused identity than a general team or sport colorway would have.
The Zoom Revis itself leaned on Nike’s Zoom Air cushioning and a low-profile construction suited for lateral movement and speed-oriented training, consistent with what Revis’s position demanded. The silhouette was not a high-volume general release model, which made the Sole Collector editions a more limited proposition within an already narrowly distributed line.
Revis was at or near the height of his reputation in 2013, coming off seasons that had cemented his status as a cornerback who operated at a level few players at the position had reached. Having a branded training shoe tied to his name at that point was a reflection of that standing, and the Sole Collector treatment gave the model a footwear-culture dimension beyond its on-field athletic function. The two colorways offered visual variety while keeping the SC identity consistent across both versions.
