The Yeezy Boost 750 marked the beginning of the Kanye West and adidas partnership made public at the 2015 Grammy Awards, when West performed in a sample pair before the shoe had an official name or release date attached to it. The collaboration had been announced after West’s departure from Nike, and the 750 was the first silhouette the two parties brought to market together.

The design borrowed structural cues from West’s earlier Nike work while moving in a different direction. The high-top boot construction sits on a full-length Boost midsole, one of the first instances of adidas deploying that cushioning technology in a lifestyle context at this kind of cultural scale. The upper is built from a suede and leather combination with a side zip closure running from the ankle to the toe, eliminating traditional lacing entirely. A gum rubber outsole grounds the silhouette and contrasts against the light grey and cream tones of the upper, which were the defining colors of this debut release. The overall palette is deliberately muted, which made the shoe easy to read as a luxury-adjacent object rather than a traditional athletic release.

The debut colorway released through a combination of adidas channels and select retailers, with demand far exceeding supply at the time. The 750 would go on to release in additional colorways including a darker brown and a black triple, but this original light grey version carries the weight of being the first commercial Yeezy on adidas tooling. It established the template for how adidas and West would handle Yeezy releases as scarce, culturally loaded drops, a model that would define much of the sneaker market’s behavior for the years that followed.
