Yeezy Boost 350 V2 "debut"

2016

Sneaker history

The Yeezy Boost 350 V2 arrived in 2016 as an evolution of the original 350 silhouette, refining nearly every element of the design that had made its predecessor one of the most talked-about releases of the previous year. The V2 introduced a new Primeknit upper pattern with a distinctive side stripe running the length of the shoe, a feature that became immediately identifiable and set the template for every colorway that followed.

The debut colorway, widely known as Beluga, established the visual language the V2 would carry forward. The upper combines a muted grey Primeknit base with a bold solar orange side stripe, a contrast that felt deliberate and graphic without veering into loud territory. The heel tab carries a matching orange tab, and the semi-translucent midsole integrates Boost cushioning technology in a way that remains visible through the sole unit. The overall construction sits lower and feels more refined than the original 350, with a stiffer cage structure built into the knit.

As the first V2 colorway to release, Beluga carries foundational status within the line. Kanye West’s partnership with adidas was already generating significant cultural momentum by this point, and the V2 launch pushed that visibility further. The Beluga managed to feel cohesive where some early Yeezy colorways had felt experimental, and its restraint likely contributed to how well it held up visually over time. Secondary market demand at release was considerable, reflecting the difficulty of securing a pair at retail through the limited drop model adidas and West had established. The colorway has since seen reissues, each generating renewed attention from collectors tracking the V2’s history from its origins.
