Courageous "Bacon & Eggs"

2016

Sneaker history

Feature is the Las Vegas boutique that has built a reputation for collaborations with a sense of humor, and the Bacon and Eggs Courageous is one of its most memorable. Released in December 2016, the shoe takes the Saucony Courageous and themes it around the most American breakfast there is, working bacon and egg tones and details into the runner in a way that is playful without tipping into pure novelty. It is the kind of food-inspired concept that became a small genre in the 2010s, and Feature executed it cleanly enough that it landed as a real release rather than a gimmick.

Saucony’s collaboration program leaned heavily on boutiques during this period, handing its archive runners like the Courageous and the Shadow to shops with strong points of view, and Feature was among the most reliable of those partners. The Courageous is a lightweight, suede-and-nylon runner that takes color and theme well, which made it a natural canvas for a concept like this. Feature operated at the center of Las Vegas sneaker culture, a city not usually thought of as a sneaker town, and its collaborations helped put it on the map. For an archive the Bacon and Eggs Courageous documents both Saucony’s boutique-driven collaboration era and the playful, concept-forward streak that ran through the mid-2010s, when a respected shop could turn breakfast into a sneaker and have people line up for it.
