Equipment Running Cushion 91 "Sub Green"

2014

Sneaker history

The adidas Equipment Running Cushion 91 in the Sub Green colorway is one of the most faithful touchstones in the entire EQT catalog. The original Equipment line launched in 1991 as adidas’s answer to stripped-down, performance-first design, and the Running Cushion was among the three core silhouettes that defined the series from the start. The Sub Green colorway, using Running White as the base with Sub Green applied to the Three Stripes, heel tab, and accent stitching against a black collar and grey suede overlays, is the OG configuration, the one that has come to serve as the visual shorthand for the entire Equipment era.

The construction is textbook early-90s adidas running architecture: a breathable mesh underlayer across the toe box and vamp, grey suede overlays at the lateral forefoot and heel, a low-cut ankle opening with a pronounced black collar band, and a cupsole with a grey and white midsole unit. The cream-tinted sock liner and lace loop at the tongue, marked with the Equipment wordmark in Sub Green, are period-correct details that adidas has consistently preserved across the multiple OG reissues of this model.

After a limited Consortium release, adidas brought the Running Cushion 91 Sub Green back for wider distribution in 2014, and the shoe has re-emerged at various points since, each time in an effort to honor the 1991 original without alteration. The M25762 style code is associated with the 2014 reissue. For collectors and EQT purists, the Running Cushion 91 Sub Green occupies a different tier than the later modernized iterations of the line, its value tied directly to how closely it mirrors the source.
