The Reese Forbes x Nike SB Dunk Low Denim is among the foundational releases in Nike SB’s early catalog, arriving in 2002 when the sub-brand was still establishing the template for what a skateboarding Dunk could be. Forbes, a respected figure in the San Francisco skate scene, brought a distinctly utilitarian aesthetic to the project, covering the entire upper in raw indigo denim sourced and treated to produce intentional variation across panels. The result is a shoe that reads less like a manufactured product and more like something assembled from workshop scraps, which was very much the point. Multiple denim washes appear across the toe box, quarter panel, and heel, with contrasting washes on the Swoosh deepening the layered look. Frayed edges at seam lines and panel borders reinforce the handmade quality, and the construction is deliberately unpolished in a way that was unusual for a Nike release at the time. Navy laces sit on the tongue, which carries a light beige lining visible at the collar. The midsole is clean white, and the chunky SB outsole unit is rendered in a dark burgundy-red that grounds the otherwise workwear-leaning palette. The shoe was produced in limited quantities through skate shop distribution, consistent with Nike SB’s approach during that period, and it has maintained a strong reputation among collectors who track the SB Dunk’s earliest chapter.
