Air Max 2090 "OG"

The Air Max 2090 arrived in 2020 as Nike’s attempt to project the Air Max 90 lineage forward rather than simply reissue it. Where the Air Max 90 remains one of the most revisited silhouettes in Nike’s catalog, the 2090 took its foundational design language and pushed it toward a futuristic interpretation, layering updated construction over the bones of the original.

The OG colorway draws directly from the Air Max 90’s most recognizable palette, translating the classic arrangement of grey, white, black, and infrared into a new silhouette built around a full-length Air unit that sits prominently at the heel. The upper combines mesh with synthetic overlays, structured differently from the 90 but clearly in conversation with it. The midsole carries more visual mass than its predecessor, and the outsole wraps upward at the sides in a way that emphasizes the shoe’s wider, more planted stance.

Releasing in 2020, the 2090 landed at a moment when Nike was actively revisiting its Air Max archive, extending several classic numerics into new chapters. The model sits alongside efforts like the Air Max 2090 Circuit and various other builds that followed, but the OG colorway was the direct opening statement, meant to establish the connection to heritage before diverging into its own territory.

The silhouette has drawn mixed reactions within the community, with some finding the design overcrowded compared to the restraint of the 90 and others appreciating it as a genuine evolution rather than a retro cash-in. The OG colorway at minimum makes the lineage legible, giving the 2090 a clear reference point to either embrace or argue against.
