Air Jordan 6 Retro "Pinnacle"

2015

Sneaker history

The Air Jordan 6 Retro Pinnacle sits at the top tier of Jordan Brand’s premium retail offerings, released in 2015 as part of a broader Pinnacle series that applied liquid-metallic finishes to several classic Jordan silhouettes. The upper is constructed entirely in a mirror-like gold patent leather, a material choice that reads more as wearable trophy than basketball shoe. Contrast comes from the white midsole and outsole, which keep the build from reading as monotone while reinforcing the championship-medal aesthetic the colorway is clearly chasing.

The AJ6 silhouette, originally designed by Tinker Hatfield for Michael Jordan’s 1991-92 season, provides the structural foundation. Key design details carried over from the original remain intact: the perforated toe box, the mid-foot support wings in matching gold, the pull tab at the heel, and the visible Air unit in the midsole. The lacing system uses a two-tone approach, with gold metallic laces at the top eyelet and tan waxed laces through the remainder, a small detail that adds some visual complexity to an otherwise maximalist upper.

The box itself, visible in the photo, reflects the premium positioning of the release, featuring gold Jumpman branding on white packaging. The Pinnacle releases were sold through select Jordan Brand accounts at elevated price points compared to standard retros, positioning them as collector pieces rather than general-market product. The gold AJ6 Pinnacle draws a direct line to Jordan’s six NBA championships, making the trophy-finish concept legible without requiring any additional branding or co-sign.
