Air Jordan 11 Retro "Space Jam"

2016

Sneaker history

The Air Jordan 11 Retro Space Jam is one of the most recognizable basketball shoes ever produced, drawing its name from the 1996 film in which Michael Jordan wore a version of the silhouette on screen. Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Jordan 11 as a departure from the performance norms of its era, introducing a full-length patent leather mudguard that wrapped the lower portion of the shoe and a ballistic mesh upper that cut weight without sacrificing structure. On the Space Jam colorway, those materials appear in black throughout, with a blue embroidered Jumpman at the ankle collar providing the only color accent beyond the white midsole and translucent iced outsole. The lace toggle carries a small gold dubrae, a signature detail across the AJ11 line. The shoe debuted in its original form during the 1995-96 NBA season, worn by Jordan during his return to championship form, and it appeared on screen during production of Space Jam later that year. Jordan Brand has retroed the colorway multiple times, with the 2016 release being among the widest-distribution versions, featuring a full family-size run and premium packaging. The outsole on this pair shows the characteristic yellowing that develops over time on the translucent rubber, a known aging trait of the AJ11 sole compound across all retro generations.
