The adidas adiZero Crazy Light in Sharp Blue is the launch colorway of what was, at the time of its June 2011 release, the lightest basketball shoe ever made. Tipping the scales at 9.8 ounces in a size 9, the Crazy Light was built from a bare-foot blueprint by the adidas Innovation Team, with every material and construction detail subordinated to weight reduction. The upper pairs a Sharp Blue SPRINTWEB exoskeleton, less than 1mm thick, with a bonded nylon textile base. That translucent mesh construction gives the shoe its skeletal, almost anatomical appearance and accounts for the 360-degree ventilation the model was marketed around. The SprintFrame external heel counter wraps from the heel through the midsole in a slightly metallic variation of the same Sharp Blue, while white appears on the heel-wrapping three-stripes, the adiZero pinline tracing the perimeter of the upper, and the outsole. The traction pattern uses varied rubber thickness across the footprint, concentrating grip at high-wear perimeter zones and trimming weight in the midfoot. Two interchangeable sockliners were included, one a perforated performance liner that kept the shoe at its record weight, the other a denser foam option for players who wanted more cushioning. The Sharp Blue mid-top was worn on-court during the 2011 NBA Playoffs by players including Jrue Holiday, Wilson Chandler, and Hedo Turkoglu before the public retail launch. It retailed for $130 at Foot Locker, Eastbay, and shopadidas.com, and the same colorway later carried over to the Crazy Light Low when that silhouette launched in early 2012.
