adiZero Rose 2 "Baylor Bears"

2011

Sneaker history

The adidas adiZero Rose 2 arrived for the 2011-12 NBA season as Derrick Rose’s second signature model, and it represented a meaningful step forward in the performance basketball category. Built around SPRINTweb side paneling and a SPRINTframe chassis at the heel, the shoe was engineered to complement Rose’s adiZero SpeedWrap ankle brace through a low-cut gore collar that locks the heel without a traditional high-top cuff. The perforated leather toe box and forefoot keep weight down while delivering a clean, structured look. This particular colorway maps directly onto the Seattle SuperSonics palette, forest green patent leather wrapping the heel counter and spilling into the outsole unit, gold laces threading through the eyestay, and white carrying the bulk of the perforated upper. The three stripes run vertically down the heel in tonal green against the patent, and a fine gold pinstripe traces the midsole seam. Rose’s signature appears on the lateral outsole, situating this firmly within the authenticated PE and team-color tier that adidas produced alongside the main retail colorways. The ‘All Flights Cancelled’ campaign tied to the Rose 2 leaned on aviation iconography, but adidas also pushed a series of NBA team-color builds that let the shoe read as a direct on-court reference, and the Sonics palette, green, gold, and white, is one of the more visually arresting combinations in that run. The model retailed at $110 and launched in October 2011.
