Basketball inspiring Nike SB is a trend that created some successful looks for the SB catalog. Back when Nike signed Vince Carter he was given the role as Dr. Funk, a key player on the fictional 70’s basketball team the Roswell Rayguns. In 2005, Nike SB brought the Rayguns back to the world in the form of two pair of Dunk Lows.

One pair represented the home colorway, while the second was for away games. They switched it up as the black-based pair represented home and white, away. For the colorblocking Nike SB swapped the white and black parts for each shoe, but the orange and yellow panels stayed the same. On the heel of each pair was the Rayguns logo stitched in.

Since these released 10 years ago Nike has used the Roswell Raygun’s sparingly. Most notable was a few years back during their “Area 72” Collection made for the 2013 NBA All-Star festivities. An interesting tidbit is that black (home) pair is just one of a handful of SB Dunks made in toddler sizes, sent only to top dealers at the time. Much more rare, the toddler pairs go for significantly more on the sneaker marketplace.
