Throwback Thursday: Reebok DMX Lite (1999)

For decades, Reebok has played a vital role as one of the purveyors and innovators of new technology for the sneaker industry. 1999 saw a brand new model loaded with brand new technology for basketball superstar Allen Iverson. This technology was called DMX. The way DMX worked was all about redistributing air to aid in cushioning. When the wearer would strike their heel on the ground five small air chambers would force air through the middle of the outsole that would then be distributed to five other air chambers, resulting in a more cushioned impact. When you struck your forefoot, the same process would occur and the forced air would channel back to the heel. Reebok felt that this technology would benefit athletes in many different sports. Through careful research and development they created the Fusion DMX Lite runner.

This new model was introduced in a bright citron mesh colorway with black stitching on the upper and vector logo. The mesh utilized on this pair was extremely sturdy despite its lightweight construction. The DMX lite Runner featured a very rugged DMX outsole that was made and tested to withstand the rigors of professional runners. Reebok also added 3M reflective accents on the eyelets, midsole, and heel tab for visibility during night-time. Nowadays, very few pairs of this attractive colorway see the light of day.
