Like most of the early Nike SB Dunk’s released in standard issue Nike boxes, “Shark” Dunk Low’s are still sought after 13 years later (especially in deadstock condition). It helps that the colorway has stood the test of time. Part of the second season of Nike SB that released in 2002, the sneaker followed the same formula as its predecessors: simple colorways and good materials. For those that didn’t know there were a few main features that made the SB Dunk different then a standard Dunk. First was the extra padded fat tongue with elastic straps attached and additionally padded liner. Second was addition of larger, round skate laces. And last but certainly not least was the addition of Zoom Air cushioned insole.

All those extra features with the colors helped create a simple but clean sneaker. The upper was a combination of Team Red suede and Nightshade tumbled leather. Rather than go with the typical white midsole the SB team with gray or Shark as they call it. The same shade was added onto the liner and tongue also. And it might be possible the combination of Nightshade and Shark was so appealing that world renowned artist Futura decided to use them also the following year. Either way, the combination is a winner as thirteen years later they still look good. Thankfully this was before the time nicknames were real popular so we get to call them “Shark” rather than “Spiderman.”
