If you were into sneakers in the 2000’s and you were in San Francisco, a stop at one of the HUF stores was on the agenda. Professional skater Keith Hufnagel’s passion for shoes and clothing lead to the creation of the stores and brand that we know today. The ties to the city lead to the creation of products that represented SF, including the etch-a-sketch logo created by their designer, some guy named Benny Gold, you might’ve heard of him.

April 18th, 2006 marked the 100th anniversary of the great 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Devastating and reshaping the city before the 1989 earthquake ever did it was an important event for the city. Remembering the past HUF/Benny Gold created the Hufquake print that was featured a few Nike sneakers as well as apparel. Two Air Force 1’s released in conjunction first and this Air Max 1 released in 2007 as a limited tier release.

For their second go at the Air Max 1 HUF went with premium materials in the form of nubuck and leather. The special print was added onto the mudguard, overlay and heel of the runner. The toebox, ankle and tongue all were treated to perforated leather. The mostly black shoe was highlighted with Green Bean on the Swoosh, eyelets along with the heel and tongue logos. The midsole matched up the uppers all while sitting on a gum outsole. Since these released HUF and Nike collaborations have quieted, so enjoy them if you can. The simple and classic styling to these runners make this a pair that looks as good today as they did when they dropped.
