TISH: Who Drops 52 and Sets New Franchise Scoring Record?

If someone were to ask you who held the single game scoring record for the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise, a handful of players would come to mind. Kevin Garnett, Sam Mitchell, Kevin Love, Christian Laettner, or Tom Gugliotta? Or the great Wally Szczerbiak? (Yes, I had to Google that spelling even after owning his jersey!) Maybe Isaiah Rider went off during his heyday? At this point, even Andrew Wiggins seems like a possibility. But all those T-Wolves stars would be the wrong answer.

It is in fact, Mo Williams. Yes, the same Mo Williams that supposedly broke the news to LeBron James that Delonte West was sleeping with his mom. The same Mo Williams that has played for eight different NBA teams in his career and has returned the Cavs to lead them to the promised land. Or at least warm the bench and grab a ring. Let’s not go there.

On this day a year ago, Williams scored a career-high 52 points on 19-of-33 shooting breaking the franchise single-game scoring record for the Timberwolves. The previous record was shared by Kevin Love and Corey Brewer at 51 points. Mo Williams’ 52 led the T-Wolves to a 110-102 victory over the Indiana Pacers. Must have been those Zoom Run The One joints he was wearing.
