It’s Monday, folks, which means it’s #MJMondays on a social media platform near you! Today, we’re going to take a look into an upcoming Air Jordan Retro set to release in Spring 2019, the Air Jordan VI Infrared!

The black Infrareds Originally released in 1991, were last seen in 2014 and shouldn’t be confused with 2010’s Varsity Reds. Hoops fans and sneakerheads alike remember these bangers as the shoes on MJ’s feet in the ’91 NBA Finals against Magic Johnson’s Lakers. Stakes were extremely high for Jordan because he was without a championship after 6 years of dominating the league. Critics always had a “yeah… but” argument against Jordan due to his inability to defeat the likes of Detroit and Boston in the Playoffs. Even with his gaudy production, individual achievements and fame people had to find something to chirp about, but Mike had somethin’ for ’em. During the 1990-91 season The Black Cat wrecked the league to the tune of:

  • A league leading scoring output of 31.5 PPG
  • First Team All-NBA Defense
  • First Team All-NBA
  • League MVP (2nd time)

Jordan successfully getting over the preverbal ‘hump’ and finally winning plays a huge part in why the Infrared 6s are held in such high regard. They’re simply elegant and aggressive at the same time, the fully black nubuck upper paired with hints of hot red (aka infrared) results in a pair of shoes that look battle ready. Not to mention they’re also the kicks MJ wore when he posterized Patrick Ewing in the 1991 Playoffs, just nasty.

The entire sequence… man… vintage MJ.
