For only the third time, the Air Jordan 7 “Bordeaux” will be available to the masses for consumption. Originally released in 1992, the sneaker stood out thanks to its unique look compared to other Jordans. Normally you wouldn’t think that sneaker with a black/grey combination on the upper would draw much attention but remember at the time of release most colorways were made for Michael to wear on court. However, we did see MJ lace them up on court once, during the 1992 All-Star game. You know, when the NBA couldn’t (or dare to) fine him for not wearing the proper colors on court.

He laced up a pair for a couple other occasions too; once for his cameo in a video for the other popular MJ of the time, Michael Jackson. The “Bordeaux” were on his feet when he schooled Jackson in basketball and got schooled in dancing during the “Jam” music video. The other occasion was part of the “Hare Jordan” campaign with Bugs Bunny. The simple nubuck upper in black and Light Graphite was a basic foundation. Bordeaux red appeared on the all important Jumpman and was mixed with yellow, green, and blue on the tribal neoprene tongue and bootie, along with the outsole. The uniqueness of the colorway made it one of the most significant original Air Jordans of the era.

For nearly two decades the “Bordeauxs” were regarded as the one of the best Jordan to never retro. Jordan Brand finally answered the community’s pleas in 2011. They have answered once again, this weekend, where the Bordeauxs get the “Remastered” finish. They’re a Tinker classic that got the luxurious treatment in 1992 so don’t sleep on them again. You never know when they’ll retro again.
