Clyde Drexler Jersey Retirement

Clyde “The Glide” Drexler is one of the few basketball players that can be remembered playing for two teams. Often referred to as the second best shooting guard of the 90’s, thanks Michael Jordan, Clyde’s legacy should not be overshadowed. After 12 seasons in Portland, they honored his requests to be traded to a contender so he could try and get a ring. That team happened to be his hometown Houston Rockets. Teaming up with good friend Hakeem Olajuwon, Clyde won his championship in his hometown. It was no surprise that Houston retired his jersey on this date in 2000.

For his first five years in the NBA, KangaROOS graced his feet. Clyde represented the brand’s basketball focus with Walter Payton representing football for ROOS. After that contract he signed with Avia, who was a subsidiary of Reebok. His high-flying efforts and the flow with which he played, ensured whatever brand sneakers he wore they would be highlighted. Needless to say, red and white sneakers were a signature look for the Hall of Famer. When he retired, Clyde joined Oscar Robertson and John Havlicek as the only players in NBA history to top 20,000 points, 6,000 rebounds and 3,000 assists.
