Today we celebrate the birth of NBA forward David West. The birthday boy (37 years) enjoyed most of his success while playing with the New Orleans Hornets (Pelicans) and Indiana Pacers. While in New Orleans he excelled as Chris Paul’s number one running mate to the tune of 21 points per-game and 8.5 rebounds per-game during his best season (2008-09). Statistically, West’s prime was with the Hornets where he earned back-to-back All-Star selections in 2008 and 2009.
In 2011’s offseason West signed as free agent with the Indian Pacers. During his four years with the Pacers David played his best Playoff basketball while being a focal point of an offense. Him and Paul George pushed Miami’s Big-3 to their limits two years in a row and it felt like his team was on the brink of championship success. His next was a stop in San Antonio as a role player off the bench. West eventually would make it to the Finals, twice, with the Golden State Warriors as he anchored their bench like a OG veteran.
David’s game could best be defined as ‘throwback’. His mid-range game was on point, he could post-up and score inside and most importantly he was stingy on defense – have fun scoring on his big body. West would hit his defender with a pump fake from 15 (feet) and drive to the hoop with force. At the end of the day David West came to work, grinded and produced – what more do you want from a star?
Nike laced West up in some clean PEs throughout his Hornets and Pacers years (with the Warriors West wore Adidas) so lets cut to the chase and take a look back at some awesome shoes! Enjoy your day, Mr. West!!
