The Air Jordan 2 arrived in 1986 at a hundred dollars, designed by Peter Moore with Bruce Kilgore, the mind behind the Air Force 1. It was made in Italy, finished with a faux-lizard texture, and stripped of the visible Nike Swoosh on the upper, an early push toward treating Jordan as his own luxury label rather than another Nike basketball shoe.

It is the model people forget, partly because Jordan broke his foot during the 1985-86 season and the shoe never got its on-court showcase. The Chicago and black and red colorways are clean and underrated. For years the 2 sat quietly while its siblings got the retros and the hype.

That has slowly changed. Union, Off-Noir, and a handful of thoughtful collaborations have given the 2 a second life with people who appreciate the design for what it was, the moment the line decided it wanted to be something finer.
