I’m a sucker for ‘90s nostalgia well beyond sneakers but when I come across trends from that era from brands that I don’t naturally think of being a part of the moment, it stands out. There are some legendary sneakers on this old scan from the Eastbay Blog but the shoe that stands out to me is the Reebok Axiom Strap.
Because Nike has done such an incredible job of force-feeding us retro nostalgia for the last 30 years, most of us will look at the sock liner+midfoot strap design and think of Huaraches, but like most trends from past eras, the industry was pushing all of these things as a whole. That $79.99 price tag is pretty impressive compared to what I remember.
