The Yeezy Boost 700 V2 arrived in 2018 as a refinement of the original 700 silhouette that Kanye West had introduced with adidas. Where the first 700 leaned into a chunky, multi-panel construction with visible layering and earth-toned contrasts, the V2 stripped that visual language back considerably. The Static colorway, which served as the debut release for this updated model, built its identity around a near-monochromatic palette, covering the upper, midsole, and outsole in a unified grey-and-white interference pattern that reads almost like television static when examined up close.

The reflective version of Static, released alongside or near the standard edition, added a layer of 3M material across the entire upper, making the shoe shift dramatically under direct light. Both iterations used the same core construction, a combination of mesh and suede-like overlays wrapped around a full-length Boost midsole unit embedded within the chunky tooling the 700 line established.

At $300 retail, the V2 came in at a premium over the original 700’s price point, which reflected both the refinements to the build and the sustained demand Yeezy product was generating at that stage of the line’s commercial run. The Static colorway functioned as a kind of reset for the sub-line, signaling that the V2 would operate with more restrained, tonal color choices rather than the busier compositions of early 700 releases.

The silhouette itself sits within the broader wave of late 2010s chunky runner aesthetics, though the Boost cushioning and the specific proportions of the 700 mold give it a character distinct from the other dad-shoe adjacent designs that proliferated during the same period.
