Air Jordan 33

No laces. A parachute-cable system that locked the foot in.

The Air Jordan 33 arrived in 2018 at a hundred and seventy five dollars and took the boldest swing of the modern era, going fully laceless. Its FastFit system, engineered by the Nike Sport Research Lab, wove roughly ten inches of ultra-strong polyethylene cable, the kind used in parachutes, and a single tug of a forefoot strap locked the foot into one of a dozen fit settings.

It launched the brand’s Flight Utility design language, inspired by spaceflight suits, and it looked the part. The laceless tech and the price split opinion sharply, the way every genuine experiment does.

Whether or not it converted everyone, the 33 stands as one of the most ambitious shoes in the catalog. It is the line proving it could still take a real risk.
