Air Jordan XX2

An F-22 Raptor on the foot, released on Michael’s birthday.

The Air Jordan XX2, the twenty-second model, came in 2007 at a hundred and seventy five dollars, again from D’Wayne Edwards, this time inspired by the F-22 Raptor fighter jet. It had reflective camo stitching, titanium eyelets and lace locks, and Jordan Brand’s first titanium shank plate, and it dropped on February 17, Jordan’s birthday.

It carried over the customizable cushioning from the XX1 and came in a high, a mid, and a run of player exclusives. As a performance shoe it was well respected, even if it never became a cultural moment the way the 90s models did.

Retros are rare, which makes the XX2 a deep cut. It is a shoe for people who like the engineering chapter of the line, the years when Jordan Brand was chasing aerospace and luxury cars instead of nostalgia.
