Although Australian premier sneaker shop Provider opened their doors way back in 2004, it was not until 2008 that they got a chance to work on a signature collaboration sneaker. That sneaker would be the iconic New Balance 1500. Coinciding with a second shop location, the timing of the collaboration was perfect for the growing business.
Although it took some time to come to fruition, their strong relationship with New Balance Australia was a big factor in getting the project going. The inspiration for the sneaker was built around the phrase “breakin’ necks,” something sneakerheads know a thing or two about. Shop owner Chris Worsley said, “there are so many things you can do these days with this kind of product – tagging, printed boxes, numbering – but it’s not always needed. I just wanted to keep the idea simple.”
The premium sneaker used the finest materials that the Flimby, England factory had. Also, knowing the 1500 was Made in England, the finest craftspeople put their full effort into making each sneaker perfect. The combination of suede and nubuck in that smooth colorway makes these one of the finest 1500’s ever made (IMO). Finding pairs today is a rare thing so if you do, expect the price tag to be high, especially if packaged with the Ray-Ban Wayfarers they were released with.
