KOD, Kawhi Leonard has too many Kicks On Deck (FYI J.Cole’s new album, KOD, is meant to have an open interpretation). Lets get right into it and start the week off with a look back at some of the silent superstar’s PE collection in anticipation of his first public release this Saturday.
Air Jordan 1 Pass The Torch, 2018
Releasing April 28th, Leonard’s Jordan 1 is another installment from Nike’s Art Of A Champion pack; and possibly the most polarizing pair releasing throughout the Playoffs due to the confines Jordan 1 fans have placed upon the handling of retros. As a fanbase, we (mostly)demand the silhouette only appear with OG branding; if a Jumpman adorns the tongue then it instantly loses luster (I believe the 1 is treated this way due to the long wait fans had to endure waiting from 2001 – 2013 for Jordan Brand to release original looking 1’s.)
Leonard’s trademark ‘Claw’ (he has massive hands) logo can be found on the left tongue, right sockliner and outsole.
Air Jordan 6 PE, 2014
Created specifically for Kawhi and serving as an ‘Opening Night’ commemorative PE. Aside from the branding, the most eye catching feature of this pair are the gold/silver speckle outsole accents. Low key, influences from the 2012 GMP Jordan 6’s. Are these your favorites?
Air Jordan XI PE, 2016
Two elements sneakerheads crave: 1) the color gold 2) Jordan 11s (need I say more?)
Air Jordan 12 PE, 2016
Usher, Kyrie, Kawhi… all the real ones have some variation of an all gold Jordan retro; Leonard was blessed with this Jordan 12 rendition that’s exclusive to him (that we’re aware of). Here he is smiling and wearing the 12’s at a charity event.
Air Jordan 13 Low PE, 2015
It’s always fun watching Jordan sponsored NBA players in retros during games; in most instances retros are worn in pregame shoot around and off court. Against the Blazers in 2015 Leonard rocked these Jordan 13 lows in a clean and simple black/white colorway. Kawhi’s the first player since Mike Bibby (we didn’t forget about Derek Anderson) to rock their own PE 13’s in an NBA game. Would you cop if Kawhi’s 13 Lows released?
Air Jordan XX8 SE PEs, 2013
For the NBA Finals Jordan Brand decked out Kawhi (and Ray Allen) with XX8s to symbolize the drive for championship gold. Throughout the season Leonard also rocked various color combinations of the XX8. Unlike Allen, The Claw wore the shroud-less SE (special edition) XX8s.
Air Jordan XX9 PEs, 2015
You’ll notice a theme dating back to the XX8 of Leonard having deep stashes of team colored PEs – like, too many PEs to count. Here are good examples of both the low and high cut XX9s Kawhi was seen wearing night to night in 2015.
Air Jordan XXX PE, 2016
Grey (pictured above), black, white and every combination in between could be found on Leonard’s XXX PEs. As a marquee name in the league and for Jordan Brand’s player roster, Kawhi was given top PE priority. More of the same from years about but scheme consistency remained high so they’re worth noting.
Air Jodan XXX1 PE, 2017
These really are the last shoe Kawhi has worn on court and he’s been given handfuls of Spurs themed PE’s. This season he was limited to only 6 games in which he wore the XXX2.
We’ve seen Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and Russel Westbrook get their own PE and signature releases; Kawhi has accomplished more than his contemporaries yet he’s just now receiving a public release. Why do you think that is? Will he ever be marketable… say, in a major sports market… like Los Angeles ;)? Tell us in the comments section below what you think!
