Half of the March Madness’s allure is the possibility of an underdog rising to the occasion and seizing victory. Unlikely Cinderella stories of recent years like Floria Gulf Coast and Middle Tennessee carry on the notion that in March, anything can happen. The Golden Retrievers of UMBC (University of Maryland Baltimore County) stole the show this past weekend with their stunning upset of number 1 seed, Virginia. History was made with the win; for the first time ever a number 1 seed fell to the 16th in the first round. ‘First time ever’ carries a lot of weight in the NCAA. For some perspective, eight number 15 seeds have upset number 2 seeds in tournament history. That’s a 5.88% chance of winning for a 15 seed. Up until last Friday, the chances for a 16 seed in the first round was ZERO. To commemorate this unlikely event lets take a look at the on-court kicks.
Under Armour Squad

Arkel Lamar, UA Heat Seeker
Arkel Lamar slams down a wide open dunk. Virginia had a hard time stopping the 3 ball and preventing penetration drives like this one.
Jourdan Grant, Curry 4 Low
Nothing like celebrating a made 3… UMBC’s ability to shoot from range kept them in the game early and aided in retaining their lead throughout the second half.
Rocking the nicest kicks on the court was the only thing working for Johnson Friday night. The Virginia guard was held to 9 points.
Virginia Cavaliers, Kyrie 3 PE
Opting out of the newer Kyrie 4, most of the Cavaliers rocked these insane Kyrie 3 PE’s. Here’s a good look at the shoes as they stare in disbelief.
Kyle Guy, Nike Paul George 2 NCAA
Kyle Guy lead the Cavaliers in scoring with 15 points in the Nike PG2 NCAA edition. Here he is comforting a teammate wearing the Zoom Rev 2017 in sorrow.
Victory is sweet, but short
Like a firecracker, UMBC’s excitement was short lived. Sunday evening they lost a tough matchup against Kansas State 43-50. Before the game, UA hooked the team up with the new Curry 5 Pi Day‘s that released earlier this week. They will forever go down in history and they did it in Under Armour style.
